This is a new age. An era where women have become liberalized and they have the society’s permission to engage in anything that they set their minds on. Among the many activities, women have been allowed to take part in are dieting and bodybuilding practices. Back in the 80s, who would have thought of professional wrestling and boxing for the women? Most of the women are doing it exceptionally well in the world of fitness today. Whereas it is important and good for a woman to be athletic, there are some challenges that her body can face if she is not cautious about her delicate but beautiful body. Female Athlete Triad (F.A.T) is a disease that mostly affects female athletes and the name triad represents the three symptoms of the disease.
1. The eating disorder

1. The eating disorder
This is the first symptom of F.A.T and the most common one is Bulimia. The athlete will go through cycles of binging where she stuffs herself with a lot of food and thereafter stick a finger down her throat in order to forcefully vomit everything. Then, the athlete goes into thorough and excessive physical activity without partnering it with the nutrition required. When the body is starved for long followed by sudden overheating, it cannot digest all that properly. The athlete will not need to stick a finger down her throat in order to puke because she will do it simply by grabbing a bite to eat.
2. Osteoporosis
This is another symptom of F.A.T and it comes as a result of lack of essential nutrients the body needs thus making the bones fragile and weak. It is important to know that this condition will have no symptoms that the athlete can detect for instance by a tingly feeling in the bones or catching a cold. The best and easiest way of taking note of it is by an increased number of injuries the athlete will experience when he performs exercises that were formerly her piece of cake. Her bones can break easily leading to the end of the bodybuilding regimen. When vital bones are broken, even after recovery, the athlete will not be able to go back to the bodybuilding regimen especially that which involves lifting heavyweight as well as intensive resistance exercises.
3. Amenorrhea
The last of the symptoms of F.A.T disease is amenorrhea. It refers to the lack of flow during the menstrual periods for a period of up to six months. For that woman with a regular flow of periods, who is usually capable of telling when the next flow will be experienced, going for over a half a year without them can be so alarming as well as stressing. Worse still, all this time the woman is not at all pregnant. In extreme cases, some women have been known to go for up to three years without their periods.
A woman beginning a training or bodybuilding regimen usually has the best of intentions. It all begins with a single move to keep fit and healthy. As time goes by, the woman may begin being very ambitious and thus will push herself more and more. Then she forgets to take note of the slightest changes in her body by evaluating whether they are positive or negative. However, no damage is beyond repair. It is important to seek help as soon as possible to prevent further damage.
